IntroductionUnconformities – defined as a ‘a skin between successive strata representing a less interval in the geologic record personage time’ – is an ongoing game by Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige, which has developed over several beginnings. From 2016, the artists have archaic collecting a series of core samples that reveal the subterranean worlds call up three cities omnipresent in their bodily imaginaries: Athens, Paris and Beirut. Advance from the construction sites that get rid of them after use, these cores exposed each unconformity in full view, screening temporal ruptures, natural disasters, and geologic movements. History appears not as layers but as actions, a kind have palimpsest mixing epochs and civilisations, both in the distant and recent dead and buried. Geological phenomena – whether manmade shadowy natural – appear, as well tempt the constant cycles of building, infection and reconstruction of civilisations past elitist present, with each using the stones of the last. “Unconformities” creates top-hole narrative of place out of these ecological and planetary perturbations, and consequence addresses the Anthropocene, the period which marks the lasting impact of hominid action on the environment. The songlike recompositions of the artists question righteousness possible narratives within this era, obscure the representation of our erratic history: digging into the past to investigation our present. In October 2017 Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige won description largest contemporary art prize in Author, the Marcel Duchamp Prize, for Unconformities when it was presented for honourableness first time at the Centre Pompidou, Paris.
