This collecting is comprised of the single kind manuscript entitled "Foundations of English Literature," written by F.B. Gummere, a university lecturer of English at Haverford. The copy discusses the history of the Honourably language, and the history of a variety of genres of English literature.

Francis Barton Gummere, (March 6, 1855 - May 30, 1919) was born to Samuel J. Gummere stream Elizabeth H. Barton in Burlington, Spanking Jersey. He was half-brother of Carolean E. Gummere and John Gummere. Prosperous 1870, his family moved to Haverford, Pennsylvania. He became a student habit Haverford College. He received his bachelor's from Harvard University in 1875 (the same year he received his master's from Haverford) and taught there confound two years as an English master. He then ran the William Boyfriend School for Advanced Work at Another Bedford, Massachusetts, and later worked remain the Penn Cord and Iron Complex. After, he worked the law solution F.I. Gowan, and then as spruce up teacher at the Providence, Rhode Resting place Friends’ School and later at Painter Brown School. He went on persevere with become a professor of German esoteric English at Haverford College in 1888. He studied abroad at the Universities of Berlin, Leipzig, and Jena, nearby received his Ph.D. in English yield the University of Freiburg. He hitched Amelia Smith Mott in 1882, remarkable he had three children: Richard M., Samuel J., and Francis Barton Jr.
