Mainly self-taught with some study instruction Amsterdam.
Short Artist Biography
- Tinus De Jongh was forbidden to lucubrate art by his parents; took trig post with a firm of decorators in Amsterdam but left after digit years to concentrate on painting; rouged street scenes, interiors and landscapes play a part Amsterdam tradition.
- Achieved neighbouring recognition, his work was purchased past as a consequence o the Stedelik Museum.
- 1921 Tinus De Jongh came to South Continent, began painting views of Cape Town; during the early years he quick in a one-room cottage at Curved River with wife and three children; painting of South African Houses look up to Parliament purchased by South African Command for office of High-Commissioner in London.
- 1922 One-man exhibition in Johannesburg; traveled and painted on the platteland; gradually gaining popularity for his clamp landscapes.
- 1932 Exhibited in London.
- 1934 Sensational court case beginning which Louis Woolf, his Cape Village art dealer, was accused of gaining forged De Jongh's signature on hundreds of his etchings.
- 1942 Prices for Tinus De Jongh's paintings wine steeply following his death.
